Gavin Brown

8 05 2012

I’m obsessed with  Gavin Brown paintings. They’re fierce, sensual, raw, and explosive.

Brown’s work draws you in. There’s a couple paintings I don’t particularly like or that I think are a bit strange but I can’t help but looking back at them: I’m drawn to the different details.

See more at his website or check out his blog.

Artist Statement:

Glimpses of private worlds fascinate me and I enjoy being an observer and commentator of popular culture in all of it’s excesses and hedonism, it’s beauty and ugliness. I hope to gain an emotional response from the audience, through creating scenarios and narratives, that they can interpret and continue themselves.

Gavin Brown, Melbourne 2011

Cate Parr

17 04 2012

Cate Parr is an English fashion illustrator living in LA. I fell in love with her leopard water colour above and that lead me to more of her other great fashion water colours. I love her colour blending, particularly in the gallery image below calledMagique 3.

From her Etsy shop:

For me, inspiration comes from many places ~ Ealing Studios, French and Italian Cinema, couture design, along with music, photography, theatre and dance.

Yag65

23 03 2012

I don’t know this artist’s name but he goes by “yag65″ on deviantART. He specializes mostly in landscapes and portraits, however there are a few still-lifes here and there.

I really enjoy his landscape watercolour paintings, particularly the ones with dusky, melancholy colour palettes that have swashes of some potentially brightish primary-esque colour (for example, the one above has emerald green right in the centre).

Mariel Empit

14 03 2012

One day whilst perusing new art on deviantART, I stumbled upon the work of Mariel Empit.

I’m enjoying the hipsterness of her work. Not all of it features  paper-things, I just happened to picture two above that do. I also really like how she colours her works: the one colour she chooses to feature really pops and adds to the drama of the piece.

See more of her work on her deviantART or Tumblr profiles.

Jennifer Lilya

Meet Jennifer Lilya, fashion illustrator extraordinaire!  Really enjoying Lilya’s fashion illustrations that feature an assortment of clothing and accessories.

In my opinion, I think she’s mastered the perfect female shape for fashion illustration. Although the stance of her models varies, they are all feminine and graceful.

From her website:

My love of runway sketching has afforded me opportunities to work with magazines, ad agencies, fashion designers & graphic artists. I specialize in traditional fashion illustration, but with a modern edge & witty hand-lettering. All of my work is done in acrylic paint & black ink on paper.
